How did you get into art?
This question is hard cause like many artists I don’t really remember a time I didn’t draw. It’s more I didn’t stop drawing. I don't think I realised that I was “good” at it till I was 11. We had to draw a fruit still life and I got encouragement to keep it up by a teacher. I was a un-diagnosed disability kid at the time so good feedback wasn't something I got very often. Because of this I began drawing more. The kids down my street would adore it when I drew Pokémon characters, my family would fuss over my Disney characters. At some point my high school teachers began to encourage me to use paint more in class because my rendering with pencil and charcoal was poor and I was way better with paint. Which lead me to try different paints out figuring out which I liked which I didn't. At some point I fell in love with watercolour.
What is your artistic background?
I did art at GCSE and A Level. I then made a little bit of a mistake and did a Film and TV Production course at university. Mainly because everyone told me I couldn’t make money off my paintings. So young stupid me decided to go into film which is just as hard to get into. I figured i could go into set design and use my art skills this way. My course however barely taught this. So definitely a bad decision on my behalf. Most of my art education after school comes from self learning, books, videos, short courses and art demonstrations.
What watercolour paints do you use?
I currently use a mix of Daniel Smith, Winsor and Newton professional watercolour, Winsor and Newton Cotman’s and Daler-Rowney Watercolour. I'm slowly replacing the Cotman’s with professional pigments. I also use Kuretake Gansai Tambi paint which is also referred to as Japanese Watercolour and Shin Han Pass Watercolour and Gouache Hybrid paint though I usually use this as gouache over watercolour.
What do you use to paint digitally?
I use Photoshop CS6 and a large Wacom Intuos 4 tablet
Can I get a tattoo of your work?
For most of my artwork this is fine. For pieces labelled as a commission please check with me beforehand as some are personal to the commissioner. If you do get a tattoo done of my work I would appreciate your support by buying a print of my artwork or something.
